Hello everyone and welcome to my site;)
(I'm still tweaking it, so please bear with me till I get it right) A little bit about yours truly : my name is Brian Chovanec and I am a custom knife maker (originally from Australia ,currently residing in the heart of Europe, Slovakia). I specialise in one-of-a-kind collector's Art knives. All my knives are 100% hand made to an original design so each is as unique as it can get - I NEVER make two knives the same, so when you acquire one of my knives you can rest assured that there is not another one like that anywhere in the world( nor there will be)- and of course they come with signed Certificate of Authenticity. Because all my knives are 100% hand made (using only basic, mostly hand held tools and traditional techniques) their creation is very time consuming therefore I am only able to make on average about 5-6 knives a year. Also, except for the forging of the Damascus stock(which I buy from top blacksmiths in a flat bar stock) I am a sole author of all my knives, that means I do all the work on them myself, including engraving , embellishing ,sheaths, cases etc, etc ;)....I mention this because that is the most often asked question I get...Did you make all this? And that too?Even this?...well,yep ;) Although from time to time I still do undertake an interesting concept on commission, I prefer to create freehand...meaning I start off with a very vague concept/idea and then just go with the flow and let the piece lead me where it "tells" me to ;) This means that more often than not I myself don't know what the finished piece will look like until it's finished;)...as an Artist I like the spontaneity of this creative process and also the freedom of nearly unlimited options and paths it can take during the creation...a set design doesn't allow for this. Each piece has a bit of my soul in it and every one of them is very special to me in its own way , one could say they are like my children, because of the endless hours and emotions that went into creating every single one of them. My work has found it's way to some of the most exclusive private collections around the globe and has been published in numerous knife related publications in several countries, most notably a 5 page feature article (by Keith Spencer) in the 2009 Knives Annual. I am always happy to answer any questions you might have ,so please don't hesitate to drop me a line on [email protected] Cheers ;) Brian
